Treatment of Third-Degree Burns

Third-degree burns cause damage to all layers of the skin and look white or charred. These burns may cause little or no pain because the nerves and tissue have been so severely damaged. Third-degree burns take a long time to heal and require immediate medical attention. If you suffer a third-degree burn, do not remove any clothing that may be stuck to the burn and don’t soak the area with water or apply ointment. You can cover the area with a clean, damp cloth until you receive medical attention.
