Hand Rejuvenation

Aging Hands?

The face and the neck are the primary area of concern when it comes to looking younger. However, a commonly overlooked area of aging is our hands. Aging hands like the face are susceptible to volume loss and sun damage. Volume loss becomes associated with looking older as the veins and tendons on the back of the hand become more prominent. Long term sun exposure leads to age spots.

What is Radiesse and How Does it Work?

Radiesse is an injection placed under the skin using a small needle. This wrinkle filler is injected under the skin to plump the skin up and remove wrinkles. This filler adds fullness under the skin and stimulates your body to create collagen in the area in which it is injected. The fullness results of Radiesse treatments are immediate and gratifying. The treatment lasts for a year or more, making injections and the looks of your hands long lasting.

Radiesse dermal filler contains tiny Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel. Once injected, the body produces its own natural collagen. The result is instant volume that helps to smooth out the signs of aging. Radiesse uses CaHA (Calcium Hydroxylapatite) suspended in a water-based carrier to plump the skin where it is placed, to fill out the area, and to create a younger look where it is injected almost immediately. Not only is the area smoothed out due to the CaHA injections, but the injections also stimulate the development of collagen, creating a further elimination of wrinkles.

Over time, this gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes these tiny calcium based microspheres, leaving behind your own natural collagen. Radiesse is recommended for individuals over the age of 21 years.

Radiesse is injected under the skin of the back of the hand (not the palm) to enhance the appearance of the hands. Once your hands are plumped, you will no longer be able to see wrinkles, tendons or veins standing out. Each hand usually requires one syringe of Radiesse. The overall procedure takes 5-10 minutes. After Radiesse is injected, it is gently massaged into place to evenly distribute the material.

If you’d like to have smoother, younger looking hands, try Radiesse injections. These high-tech shots will benefit the way your hands look much faster and for a longer time than mere hand creams alone. The injections are preferred to hand creams to help your hands look younger because:

• The rate of patient satisfaction is high.
• Your collagen is created by the injections to keep your hands smoother.
• The injections include the anesthetic lidocaine, which makes the Radiesse injections almost painless.
• The results of the Radiesse injections last for a year or more.
• If your hands appear more youthful, you look younger, too.

Minimal after care is necessary. The patient may experience redness, bruising or swelling immediately and lasting for a few days. Ice should be applied to minimize bruising and you should refrain from vigorous hand use for 24 hours. The affects of Radiesse can last up to 12-18 months. The patient returns two weeks after the initial injection and a touch-up added in a small percentage of cases.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite has been used safely in the treatment of otology, laryngeal, and dental and orthopedic applications. Radiesse was approved for use by the Federal Drug Administration on June 4, 2015. It is approved for use in the UK and other countries and has been used extensively in the US for hand rejuvenation without any side effects other than those commonly seen for facial use which are mild and of short duration such as redness, bruising, swelling, itching and pain. Some lumpiness at the injection site can rarely occur.

Who should avoid Radiesse?

Studies have not yet been performed on patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding and therefore it is not advisable to perform this procedure on these patients. Patients on blood thinners such as aspirin may be more susceptible to bruising or bleeding at the injection site. There have been no studies of possible interactions between Radiesse dermal filler and drugs or other substances or implants.

Immediately following the injection and lasting up to 12-18 months, the results are beautiful hands natural to touch and look. In many cases, the Radiesse injections cause your body to build new collagen and may allow the plumpness you gain from your Radiesse injections to last even longer than one year
